Discovery exploring bid for Channel 4 UK, report claims
Discovery Communications is reportedly exploring a potential bid for British broadcaster Channel 4, according to a report.
Discovery, Inc. ($DISCA) is a multi-national operator of pay television networks based in the United States. The company operates 19 channels in the United States, including the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, the Science Channel, the Cooking Channel, Destination America, TLC, HGTV, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) and MotorTrend. Internationally, the company operates global variants of its stateside networks as well as DMAX (Germany), EuroSports 1 and EuroSport 2 (Europe), Quest (United Kingdom) and 9Rush (Australia).

Television viewers who have dropped their expensive cable or satellite TV packages still want access to channels that offer lifestyle and knowledge programming, according to a new survey. The survey carried out by Beta Research in March and published earlier this week found most cord-cutters still crave the Discovery Channel, with nearly two out of five non-cable subscribers desiring access to the network. Other channels that scored high on a customer’s wish list include Discovery-owned Animal Planet, Food Network, HGTV and Investigation Discovery (ID) along with competing networks History (owned by A+E Networks), Comedy Central (ViacomCBS) and FX (the Walt Disney Company).
