A Sacramento television personality was arrested earlier this month for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Mark Allen Stell, known professionally as “Mark S. Allen,” was arrested in the early morning hours of December 4 after a citizen called police to report a vehicle driving erratically in the Sacramento suburb of Roseville.

A responding officer arrested Stell on suspicion of DUI. He was booked into the Placer County Jail and released a short time later.

Stell’s arrest was first reported by Nick Miller of the alternative Sacramento News & Review newspaper early Friday morning.

Stell is an entertainment and general assignment reporter for the Sacramento CBS duopoly KOVR-TV and KMAX-TV (Channels 13 and 31), best known for his appearances on Sacramento’s flagship morning program “Good Day” and for his half-hour entertainment news program “Mark at the Movies.” He also hosts an afternoon drive-time program on the CBS-owned pop music station KZZO-FM (“Now 100.5”) and plays a small role as a television journalist in the upcoming film “Independence Day: Resurgence.

Chad Rufer, the program director for KZZO, said Stell would not appear on-air pending the outcome of an investigation by the station.  John Armand, the news director for KMAX-TV, has not yet returned e-mail inquiries from The Desk seeking comment.

The incident was Stell’s second arrest for driving under the influence in nearly a decade. He was previously sentenced to three years of probation and more than 40 hours of community service after pleading guilty to a DUI charge in 2006. Shortly after his conviction, he delivered an apology to viewers, explaining that he had consumed alcohol at a dinner earlier in the evening and believed it was safe to drive a friend to the airport.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified the subject of the piece. He is Mark Allen Stell, not Mark Stall.
