Two vehicles being used by reporters for a San Francisco television station were burglarized in Oakland, California.
Thieves targeted a KGO-TV news van last week, making off with several personal items but no station equipment. The thieves also burglarized a vehicle being used by a security guard assigned to the news crew.
The crew and the guard were assigned to a story at an art gallery near Oakland’s Jack London Square. Security guards are routinely assigned to news crews covering stories in Oakland due to the city’s high incidents of crime.
KGO is the latest victim of thieves targeting television news crews in Oakland. Last November, a cameraman from KPIX-TV was assaulted and his camera was stolen in a brazen act of theft during a live television report. A thief also stole a laptop from a KTVU news van last June.
